This week at the HUBB...AJAMI (2009)

Palestinian Scandar Copti and Israeli Yaron Shani collaborated on this independent drama, which examines how the troubled relationship between their countries colors everyday life in the Middle East.  It follows the stories of a number of Palestinians and the conflicts they encounter living in the Ajami neighborhood of Jaffa, near Tel Aviv.  Ajami won a special distinction award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for best foreign film at the 2009 Academy Awards.

120 minutes
In Arabic and some Hebrew with English subtitles

Critics say...
"The performances are searingly intense, all delivered by non-professionals cast to type and extemporizing within the parameters of the script. They take the play out of acting, and the effect is unvarnished realism." - Globe and Mail

"... acutely insightful about the social divisions within Israel, but it examines them without scolding or sentimentality." - seanax.com

Gecko Cafe In Battambang

(Updated) The Gecko has moved to street #1 and is now called The Kitchen.   Food Gecko Cafe is located on the corner of Street 3 and 119. The place sits atop Gecko Moto's. I visit this place lot's of times during my stay in Battambang and when it comes to wanting a little western taste, this is one of my favorite spots. They serve good western food including burgers, pizza, salads and more. They also have Mexican food ranging from tacos to burritos and more. The Taco salad I had last was great and reminded me of home a little. Also, being in Cambodia, you can't forget about the Khmer dishes. I haven't tried alot of Khmer food here but I can say that the fried rice was good. They also serve some alcohol drinks. Besides being a little pricey for the locals, the money you pay for food here is well worth it. So enjoy! Service Ano...

The two villains, 18 and 19, made their move after the driver had picked up a pair of foreign fares at Phnom Penh International Airport. When the teens made their move, the female passenger resisted, giving our tuk-tuk hero the chance to turn his vehicle into the thugs and send them tumbling to the ground. Police have sent the duo to court.
