Battambang is a charming city, too often overlooked by tourists hurrying between the temples of Siem Reap and the bright lights of Bangkok and Phnom Penh. Now, at Here Be Dragons, there's a place for them to kick back, drink and swap stories, or just sink into a hammock and relax.

Here Be Dragons bar is open till late, plays good music, and serves cheap beer and a variety of colourful cocktails - from classics like margaritas and mojitos to more surprising inventions, like the dramatic table-slamming 'dragon drop'. The food menu includes breakfasts, sandwiches and some great Khmer and Thai dishes at prices to suit every budget, and will soon be extended to include a full range of backpacker Western favourites. There's also a big garden with comfy seats and lots of flowers, where travellers can chill out with friends or a laptop at any time of the day.

Our $2 a night dorm room will be ready in early November, and by the end of the month we should have all our rooms open. Prices range from $5 for a double room with shared bathroom to $10 for a double room with private bathroom.

Gecko Cafe In Battambang

(Updated) The Gecko has moved to street #1 and is now called The Kitchen.   Food Gecko Cafe is located on the corner of Street 3 and 119. The place sits atop Gecko Moto's. I visit this place lot's of times during my stay in Battambang and when it comes to wanting a little western taste, this is one of my favorite spots. They serve good western food including burgers, pizza, salads and more. They also have Mexican food ranging from tacos to burritos and more. The Taco salad I had last was great and reminded me of home a little. Also, being in Cambodia, you can't forget about the Khmer dishes. I haven't tried alot of Khmer food here but I can say that the fried rice was good. They also serve some alcohol drinks. Besides being a little pricey for the locals, the money you pay for food here is well worth it. So enjoy! Service Ano...

Police Blotter: 14 Nov 2012

It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no, it’s a tuk-tuk driver A quick-thinking tuk-tuk driver turned the tables on a pair of would-be bag snatchers in the wee hours of Monday morning, ending their shenanigans by using his own vehicle as a battering ram. The two villains, 18 and 19, made their move after the driver had picked up a pair of foreign fares at Phnom Penh International Airport. When the teens made their move, the female passenger resisted, giving our tuk-tuk hero the chance to turn his vehicle into the thugs and send them tumbling to the ground. Police have sent the duo to court.
