Slow Battambang

During the low season, Battambang can be described as an all most to quiet place. This makes networking and getting to know others really difficult. Many seem to be busy with their own life and those that are busy are even too busy to greet you with a simple hello. So what are some things that you can do when everything else seems to be running at a snail pace?

Entertainment is not hard to find in Battambang depending on what you like to do. There are many different places that can keep you entertained until you feel like going home and passing out under the mosquito net. Many foreigners might want to try some beer gardens like 71 0r 96 and so forth if you like to have a few beers with friends and chat with single ladies that will tell you anything just to try an earn a tip from you.  Many of the foreign bars are a great way to unwind. Here Be Dragons and places like Cafe Eden have a great atmosphere during the evening where you can hopefully find a drinking buddy if your feeling like chatting about your adventurous trip to Cambodia. If your into dancing to some high energy techno music, then you might want to check out Sky Disco or even Starlight. I have been to these places and to tell you the truth, it was a head ache.

Taking a trip to Komping Pouy is one of the locals favorites when some special occasion is happening. But for someone like me, I go when I feel the need to get out. Komping Pouy is a place where I can rent a boat and take a ride on the lake to enjoy the beautiful man made lake, and try to nab some lotus plants so I can eat the seeds.

Haven't been around most of Battambang. You can rent a moto at Gecko Moto's for $7 bucks a day and take it for a spin all around Battambang, and while you in the area, you can have a great meal just above at The Gecko Cafe.

Catching up on some old unseen movies is a way to stay out of the rain during the evening or even sitting down and digesting yourself in a great book.

Many of the local NGO's have many things going on and you can find out by setting up an account with battambang connect via google groups. The site is used as an information hubb to let those know whats going on in this city. You can also follow me on facebook at

Gecko Cafe In Battambang

(Updated) The Gecko has moved to street #1 and is now called The Kitchen.   Food Gecko Cafe is located on the corner of Street 3 and 119. The place sits atop Gecko Moto's. I visit this place lot's of times during my stay in Battambang and when it comes to wanting a little western taste, this is one of my favorite spots. They serve good western food including burgers, pizza, salads and more. They also have Mexican food ranging from tacos to burritos and more. The Taco salad I had last was great and reminded me of home a little. Also, being in Cambodia, you can't forget about the Khmer dishes. I haven't tried alot of Khmer food here but I can say that the fried rice was good. They also serve some alcohol drinks. Besides being a little pricey for the locals, the money you pay for food here is well worth it. So enjoy! Service Ano...

Police Blotter: 14 Nov 2012

It’s a bird, it’s a plane – no, it’s a tuk-tuk driver A quick-thinking tuk-tuk driver turned the tables on a pair of would-be bag snatchers in the wee hours of Monday morning, ending their shenanigans by using his own vehicle as a battering ram. The two villains, 18 and 19, made their move after the driver had picked up a pair of foreign fares at Phnom Penh International Airport. When the teens made their move, the female passenger resisted, giving our tuk-tuk hero the chance to turn his vehicle into the thugs and send them tumbling to the ground.
