Cambodians Somberly Mark Independence Day

PHNOM PENH - Hundreds of people gathered at Independence Monument in Phnom Penh on Friday to celebrate the 59th anniversary of Cambodia’s independence from France. King Norodom Sihamoni, still in mourning at the death of his father, Norodom Sihanouk, did not attend the ceremony. Sihanouk is widely credited with bringing Cambodia through its independence without violence. He died in Beijing Oct. 15, and his body is now lying in state at the Royal Palace. The death of the former king, widely revered in the country, cast a somber mood on the celebration. The ceremony was presided over by National Assembly President Heng Samrin, at Independence Monument in the capital. Prime Minister Hun Sen did not attend the ceremony, which included the lighting of a “victory flame” at the base of the monument that will burn for the next three days. Marn Dollar, a 22-year-old student of agriculture, said the ceremony was a day of sadness for him, due to the death of Sihanouk. “I to

But besides that, I don't want to forget about all the other awesome things that's going on in Battambang, and I know you want to see it also. Don't worry people! There is just so many things I want to bring for your enjoyment. I am currently trying to update the hotel and guest house list. The restaurant list and many other things. So please be patience and know that I am currently working hard. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough but then again, we can only do so much at one time. Thanks for those that read and follow this blog. I plan in the future to do give away's for those in the Battambang area. I feel that the english speaking community in Battambang is small and I hope to be a part of those who are looking to network and make things happen. Even

AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES @ BATTAMBANG RESORT

AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES @ BATTAMBANG RESORT starting again from 7:30 - 8:30 am, Tuesday and Thursday mornings Fee:  $2.50 for use of the pool plus a donation to the instructor. In these unique, fun-filled, water-based exercise classes, we will combine regular fitness moves with qigong (chikung), tai qi (tai chi), yoga,  watsu (water shiatsu) and play.  Exercise in a pool uses buoyancy (weight off joints), hydrostatic pressure (strengthens breathing, helps remove lactic acid from cells and delivers it to the liver, thus reducing after exercise soreness) and resistance of the water itself( this is like using weights for strength training).   The beautiful pool at Battambang Resort is salt-water.... even more buoyant and so much better for the skin!!!   The instructor, Canadian Doreen Bakstad, brings to the classes not only a love of being in water, but also 30 years of experience in health and wellness. She swims like a fish and plays like a dolphin! For di

Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as call girl Stevie. The Machinist premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi Critics say... "It's fulfilling to watch a psychological thriller that demands the audience watch, pay attention, follow along, and decipher for themselves without falling in to the usual Hollywood conventions ."  - cinema crazed "[Bale's] is a great performance, full of commitment and sacrifice, and The Machinist is one of the year's best films.&q

M'lop dtra-jay-uk In Battambang

M'lop Dtra-jay-uk translated (cool shade) in Battambang is a local hotspot for the locals that are spending time with family or just hanging out with friends to enjoy cold beer and food. I can see why this place is named this way because when you enter, the whole place is covered in shade with straw huts about 2 Ft off the ground where you can enjoy your food and drink. They also have a few huts sitting along the river giving you a view of those passing by on their boats to tend to their daily business. I have been here twice and both times, this place was really busy. Of course since this is Khmer owned, the majority of the food here is also and for a little over $10, me and 3 others were able to enjoy several great Khmer dishes and 2 pitchers of beer.  Great deal! you say? Well of course! So if your guys are out to try something a little different, then I really suggest this place. This spot is one of my favorites.  The only thing that this place do

For Sale - Battambang BuzZ Guide.

Battambang BuzZ guide was first published in April 2010. Since then it has become very popular with tourists as an interesting informative resource  and local businesses as a vehicle to advertise in. Battambang BuzZ is published every six months. An A3 pocket fold-out map is also published every six months. ( meaning there is a new publication of one sort every three months throughout a twelve month period ). Obviously interested parties would have to be in Cambodia long term to run the advertising sales which fund the publication. Battambang BuzZ is noted in the new 2012 edition of Lonely Planet as recommended reading. Sale would also include the control of battambangbuzz.blogspot.com Interested parties should call 012 870993                     Thanks Kevin Bolton

Young thief fishes for phones, catches charge A teenaged thief using a long pole with a basket on the end to steal two phones through an open window ended up getting the short end of the stick when he was caught in the act, police in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district said. A neighbour saw the 16-year-old suspect mid-theft and woke the sleeping student with his shouts. The panicked plunderer injured himself jumping to the ground and was unable to hobble away from arrest.
