Police Blotter: 19 Oct 2012

Holiday pagoda party takes a violent turn A Pchum Ben romp descended into something akin to a stomp on Saturday night after guests divided into two gangs and attacked each other. The pagoda party, held in Kampot’s Kampong Tralach district, was swinging before the rival factions turned on each other, using machetes, stones and even drinking glasses in the ensuing skirmish. Four of the piqued partygoers were hospitalised while the remaining six scrammed. Police are unsure as to the cause of the breakdown. Koh Santepheap Getaway made good after chance collision An olympic effort to catch a moto-thieving crim on Wednesday ended with a runaway finish and two sporting injuries. The race began typically enough, with a run-of-the-mill moto theft from outside Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh. The 20-year-old victim and his mates raced after the crook but had not got far before the sprint was interrupted by two surprise entrants who collided with the thief, causing him to abandon the

Drying close in the rain.

Sometimes in Cambodia, you can come across some strange things. This picture was took when I was in Prey Toch. As you can see, it was raining pretty hard and I started to wonder if anyone was going to come out to grab their clothing. To my surprise, the owner of the clothes said it wasn't the first time that this has happened and that its normal. I was like... um yeah, ok. But this just proves that in different parts of the world where some might think this odd, to them is normal and that had me thinking that maybe I was the odd one. But whatever the case is, I just thought i would share this with those who are following this blog. thanks for that. I will continue to work hard to bring you news and reviews on different places in Battambang and surrounding places for your enjoyment so please stay tuned for blogging takes time when I'm  trying to get as much information as I can when writing a post.

Blaze claims young law student’s life

A 22-year-old man died while trying to escape a fire at second-hand clothing store Sakura in Chamkarmorn district’s Phsar Deumthkov commune yesterday morning.  Closed circuit TV showed the victim trying to break out of the store’s locked doors but unable to find a key. He died of smoke inhalation and burns. While they were filming him trying to break out, I wonder if it ever crossed there mind to try and help him? Luckily, I don't know the facts and maybe its good that way. but read on for the story.

King Sihanouk the Uniter | National news

King Sihanouk the Uniter  An Enduring figure in a country marked by near-constant, often tumultuous, change and perhaps the one person able to consistently create a sense of national unity, the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk leaves behind him questions over where Cambodia is headed following his death. Battambang Dirt Roads

You would think that being the second largest city in Cambodia, Battambang's roads would be in better condition than they are. These dirt roads make it real hard on those that are trying to travel the back roads to get to their homes or other places. What I think:  I think I mentioned before that Cambodia is not a poor Nation. The thing about it is that money that's coming in goes into the pockets of those that seem to misplace the money, and not back into the Country. Battambang is such a beautiful City and I hope that someone steps up to turn this place into a better place to navigate. Overall : Battambang can be better than it already is. I like the peace and quiet and people here seem to move a little slower than the other major cities like Phnom Penh and Seim Reip. If the people would come together to make it happen, I see that these roads could be a progress for our daily lives, and help make battambang a better place to navigate. (UPDATE)   It seems like

Cambodians line streets to see body of late King Norodom Sihanouk  - NY Daily News

It has surprised me that the passing of the King has caused much publicity. Maybe its because when he was living, there was really no mention of him and to me, it seemed like he was King in name only with no ruling power. Well anyways, for some, he must of been a great man. To others, they label him a King who left his people in times of need. But I'm not here to debate on who is right and who is wrong. I'm just here to share this news. So read on. Police Blotters in Cambodia

Police: Mechanic stole bolts, screws and tools Police arrested a 17-year-old fledgling flimflammer in a Kampong Cham car workshop – also the boy’s workplace – after the alleged garage greaser progressively pilfered an array of nuts, bolts, screws and tools over a number of weeks. The suspect’s employer got a whiff something was hinky, and his gumshoeing paid off. When the coppers arrived on the Tbong Khum district scene the shamefaced suspect admitted to the thefts. He was sent to court. Koh Santepheap Nabbed man accused of distributing drugs A hop-head drug peddler was caught in the act by police in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district on Sunday, police said. The 25-year-old red-hot was caught red-handed with 10 packages of yama, allegedly admitting to the bobbies that he was preparing the pills for distribution. Chork Irrigation System Rehabilitation Works.

This place is located in Phum Prey Toch. From Nation Hwy 5, you will come to a dirt road which is called 151 heading South East. This area was really confusing for me since the person driving the Moto was making turn after turn onto little dirt roads before we came to this bridge. But if you are in this area, you can ask the locals and they will be willing to point you in the right direction. The reason for my visit here was really not important. It was  mainly to site see because I was told that this is the place where the local guys and girls come to hang out and go swimming in this flowing water. There are also some who are there to net fish for food, but  unfortunately, when I was there, it was dead and no one there. but I was able to get a couple good shots with my camera so enjoy the scene.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia | Things To Do, Travel, Holidays | Photos

For alot of Khmer's that left Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge was in power have no reason why they shouldn't come and experience a country that their parent's left behind. The once war torn country is developing well and even though there is still lots of corruption, that should not deter you or anyone from seeing the big change that this country has recovered from. So here is some reason's why you should visit. Phnom Penh, Cambodia | Things To Do, Travel, Holidays | Photos

Madison Corner Battambang

Got some time on your hands? Madison Corner is the place to check out. I usually go here after 10 and have a few drinks when I need a scenery change. Madison Corner is located on the corner of 2.5 St and Street 121. It is foreign owned and this place seems to only cater more to foreigners. The Bar is good and the employees are nice. The service is also good here and if your looking for a little more than beer and alcohol, Madison Corner has a nice menu ranging from Sandwiches to burgers and fries and more. For me, I had a burger and fries while I was there last and even though it can't compare to In and Out burger in America, it was pretty decent. The atmosphere is great and the place is kept nice and clean compared to regular Cambodian standards places. The main problem with these foreign owned bars is that beer is everywhere and is much cheaper to get at any local stall. Even the local owned bars and restaurants sell beer for cheap so eating at any foreig

Komping Pouy, Battambang

Komping Pouy is 45 minutes Wast of Battambang. You can get there by taking the National Hwy 57 and after you pass Phnom Sampow,  which will be to your left, you will come to Komping Pouy Rd. Make a right and follow this road until you come to Komping Pouy Lake which is where I took these pictures. This place is known by many of the locales to be a place to hang out and be with friends and family. They have places on the edge of the water with straw roofs where you can sit on mats and order food and beer. The senery is great here and when I was there, there was a nice cool wind blowing. You will notice the food here cost a lil more than what you are use to paying in the city, but it's normal here. So don't think the locals are trying to over charge you. I did at first. Also here, you can rent boats for 10 bucks. The ride is anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes, which the pilot of the boat will circle the lake giving you a pleasant view of some nice scenery. I really enjoy

Cop fronts court for shooting of intruder

A police officer at the Ministry of Interior admitted in court yesterday to firing his gun when an intruder jumped the fence onto his property in January, but denied killing him. Lieutenant Chea Ratanak faced Phnom Penh Municipal Court accused of the unintentional murder of a man, whose identity has not been revealed, at his Tumnop Teuk commune property in the capital’s Chamkarmon district on January 5. “I accepted I really fired two bullets up in the air,” Ratanak said. “But I was not aware that somebody who was injured died at hospital.” Ratanak told the court the shooting occurred after he saw six or seven people in front of his house when he returned home with his wife from a wedding about 10pm. After the couple had gone inside their house and locked the door, a man jumped over the fence, prompting Ratanak to go back outside and fire into the air, he added. Ratanak said he tried to report the incident to the local police, but could not reach them. He later reported i
