Police Blotter: 23 Nov 2012

Kiddie robbery should have been child’s play It was like taking candy from a baby or, more precisely, a necklace from a 4-year-old. The crime took place on Wednesday when an apparently conscience-free 20-something approached the young victim as he was using a swing set in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district. Police said the tike, enjoying a relaxing afternoon with dad, had been left momentarily unattended when the cad in question came up and talked him out of his jewellery. Thankfully, pops looked up in time to see the transaction go down and immediately called for help. The callous crim was quickly collared and is now awaiting court. Kampuchea Thmey Abused wife does what neighbours couldn’t A fed-up wife finally had enough of her abusive husband yesterday, dropping the dime on her sadistic spouse of several years. Police in Banteay Meanchey’s Thmar Pouk district said the 44-year-old man, now sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial, had been beating his wife for some time, occ...

CPI: cost of living falls slightly | Business

From what I have seen these days in Cambodia, there are still large amounts of people who find it hard to support their families. It seems like prices are going up but work pay is staying the same. Its a sad thing when work is hard to find and when you do find one, they want to work you odd hours and give you the minimum. I guess this is the way of Srok Khmer where the ones doing good and have money enslave the poor suppressing them. With money hard to make here, hearing that the cost of living being down is a good thing. Hopefully the trend continues to go this way but only time will tell. Sound off in the comments section if you have a opinion. CPI: cost of living falls slightly | Business

Police Blotter: 19 Nov 2012

Ticket to ride is denied after owner spots thief A 30-year-old man, armed with a stolen ticket stub and keys, thought he could sashay past security guards with another man’s moto on Saturday in the capital’s Russey Keo district, but his methods proved ineffective against the bike’s vigilant owner. After realising the keys were missing from his pocket, the bike’s real owner hurried out of the market and into the parking lot, where he saw the suspect making off with the bike. Shouts for help brought quick action from market security, who nabbed the suspect and turned him over to police. Kampuchea Thmey Detained addict busts out, attacks own sister A drug detox home remedy backfired in Kampong Speu on Saturday when a 22-year-old drug addict escaped from the room where his family had kept him locked for two weeks and proceeded to hack his 14-year-old sister with a cleaver and axe.
