Police Blotter: 23 Nov 2012

Kiddie robbery should have been child’s play
It was like taking candy from a baby or, more precisely, a necklace from a 4-year-old. The crime took place on Wednesday when an apparently conscience-free 20-something approached the young victim as he was using a swing set in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district. Police said the tike, enjoying a relaxing afternoon with dad, had been left momentarily unattended when the cad in question came up and talked him out of his jewellery. Thankfully, pops looked up in time to see the transaction go down and immediately called for help. The callous crim was quickly collared and is now awaiting court. Kampuchea Thmey

Abused wife does what neighbours couldn’t
A fed-up wife finally had enough of her abusive husband yesterday, dropping the dime on her sadistic spouse of several years. Police in Banteay Meanchey’s Thmar Pouk district said the 44-year-old man, now sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial, had been beating his wife for some time, occasionally to the point of unconsciousness. Neighbours had tried to help to no avail, but it was the woman’s own courage that finally started the wheels of justice turning. Kampuchea Thmey

Man locked up after string of moto thefts
Eight motorbikes were stolen and eight complaints filed before Poipet town cops finally swooped in and arrested the man believed responsible for the crimes on Wednesday. Police said that the man, who is deaf, had been fingered by all the complainants and admitted his guilt via hand gestures. The provincial court is now investigating the case further. Koh Santepheap

Inattentive con robs man right under cops’ noses
Waving a knife in his victim’s face worked wonders for a Chamkarmon district robber who wanted to keep things quiet on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the modern day highwayman, no shouting was necessary as nearby cops were watching the entire scene unfold. Moments later, the criminal was in cuffs and the victim had his $25 back. Cops said the 32-year-old thief, who tried to run for it, was no first-timer in the armed robbery game. Rasmey Kampuchea

Separated thieving duo to be reunited soon: cops
One man’s in stir and another’s on the lam after police in the capital’s Toul Kork district foiled a burglary on Sunday. Police said the pair were spotted by patrolling officers as they tried to wheel a moto from the victim’s house. Both tried to bolt, with only one making his getaway good. The moto is now back with it’s rightful owner and police are looking to give the jailed thief a little company. Rasmey Kampuchea

Cafe Eden in Battambang

This place is one of my favorite spots to grab a beer and chill out. This place is located on Street 1 in between 119th and 121th street. From 3 pm to 7 pm, happy hour is in effect so you can get a glass of ice cold beer for .50 cents. They also have a good selection of good coffee and a menu that can satisfy the most picky. The food is mostly western but that's what I like about it.  They have a breakfast menu, salad menu, sandwiches and great appetizers. So if your new to Battambang, don't forget to stop by here and enjoy the nice atmosphere. The upstairs area is air conditioned and since it's located on street #1, you get to see the busy people of Battambang go about their daily lives. The place offers free Wi-Fi and the person that runs this place is a nice women. Cafe Eden Contact: Tel: (053) 73 1525 Email: cafeedencambodia@gmail.com Website: www.cafeedencambodia.com
