Mechanic in a fix after his motorbike is stolen
A young mechanic in Phnom Penh may have known how to fix motorbikes, but he couldn’t prevent being tricked out of his own. Police arrested a 25-year-old man on Thursday for “borrowing” the mechanic’s bike, supposedly to buy medicine for his sick daughter, and never returning it. Two weeks after last seeing his bike, the mechanic filed a complaint with police, who soon spotted the borrower. The suspect said he sold the bike and spent all the money. He was sent to court. Mob goes after robber caught amid thievery
A burglar in a house in Kampong Chhnang town on Thursday had not turned up anything exciting when the house’s owners themselves turned up and set a mob on him. The family of farmers had been out at work and returned to see the thief poking around. A host of villagers heeded the family’s shouts, rushed into the house and injured the suspect before handing him over to police. Koh Santepheap

Man spots motorbike in the hands of new owner
The problem with buying stolen property is that you never know when you’ll run into its original owner. That’s what a 26-year-old man in Bavet town learned on Friday when police arrested him for buying a stolen motorbike. The bike’s former owner noticed the purchaser with the bike that had recently been his and told the police, who arrested the buyer. After saying he bought the bike from a teenager, he was sent to court. Police are searching for the teen. Nokorwat

Man’s anger rises when he can’t buy bread loaf
A 23-year-old farmer in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district on Thursday apparently thought he had worked hard enough to win his daily bread without also waiting in line. Police said the farmer had asked a bread vendor for a loaf but was told to wait while the vendor attended to other customers. After waiting several minutes, the suspect flew into a rage, grabbed one of the vendor’s cleavers and destroyed the vendor’s motorbike before turning on the vendor himself. The vendor was hospitalised and police arrested the farmer. Nokorwat

Gecko Cafe In Battambang

(Updated) The Gecko has moved to street #1 and is now called The Kitchen.   Food Gecko Cafe is located on the corner of Street 3 and 119. The place sits atop Gecko Moto's. I visit this place lot's of times during my stay in Battambang and when it comes to wanting a little western taste, this is one of my favorite spots. They serve good western food including burgers, pizza, salads and more. They also have Mexican food ranging from tacos to burritos and more. The Taco salad I had last was great and reminded me of home a little. Also, being in Cambodia, you can't forget about the Khmer dishes. I haven't tried alot of Khmer food here but I can say that the fried rice was good. They also serve some alcohol drinks. Besides being a little pricey for the locals, the money you pay for food here is well worth it. So enjoy! Service Ano...

The White Rose in Battambang

The White Rose is Khmer owned and is located on the corner of St 121 and Road 2.5. This place serves good Khmer dishes for reasonable prices and some western foods. They also serve some of the best shakes in town. This place has a balcony, patio area which visitors can sit and watch the streets below where vendors sell their wares to those walking the streets. The White Rose also has a nice desert menu and ice cream that reminds me of home. This place also offers free Wi-Fi. Cleanness When the day starts of here, the place is set nice, with your typical glass, silver ware wrapped in cloth and set up nicely on the tables. I guess when this place gets real busy, the place starts looking neglected due to short of workers and the many things that are going on. To me, I think the place is under staffed and would probably run better if they were up to pace with workers. But besides that, everything else is typical Cambodia so if you don't mind that, then everything s...

Police Blotter: 23 Nov 2012

Kiddie robbery should have been child’s play It was like taking candy from a baby or, more precisely, a necklace from a 4-year-old. The crime took place on Wednesday when an apparently conscience-free 20-something approached the young victim as he was using a swing set in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district. Police said the tike, enjoying a relaxing afternoon with dad, had been left momentarily unattended when the cad in question came up and talked him out of his jewellery. Thankfully, pops looked up in time to see the transaction go down and immediately called for help. The callous crim was quickly collared and is now awaiting court. Kampuchea Thmey Abused wife does what neighbours couldn’t A fed-up wife finally had enough of her abusive husband yesterday, dropping the dime on her sadistic spouse of several years. Police in Banteay Meanchey’s Thmar Pouk district said the 44-year-old man, now sitting in a jail cell awaiting trial, had been beating his wife for some time, occ...
