Doin’ it for themselves: sisters thwart bike theft
Two sisters showed they had more moxie than the moto mugs who attempted to rob them on Thursday. Three thieves moved in on the sisters as the elder one, 24, drove her 10-year-old sibling to a local market in the Memot district, Kampong Cham. The trio of trouble stepped in and blocked their way, before trying to forcibly part the siblings from their moto. The sisters yelled for help and a bystander came to the rescue. A complaint to the police resulted in the crooks being nabbed some hours later. Koh Santepheap
Pooch poachers popped by Battambang cops
A trio of suspected dog-knappers was finally leashed on Sunday, after a spate of missing canine complaints from Battambang villagers. Police said the pooch poachers, aged 18, 19 and 28, used string to abduct their furry victims and a machete on their owners, if they dared give chase. The misappropriated mutts were then sold and the money split. Villagers believe the stolen animals were intended for consuming, not companionship. Kampuchea Thmey
Cops grill ya ma slinger over alleged network
An alleged drug dealer was apparently willing to cop the blame for a tidy ya ma operation uncovered on Thursday in Banteay Meanchey’s Anglong Veng district, but he can’t blame the cops for wanting to know who else was involved. Police said they observed the dopey fiend’s activities for some time before raiding the joint and netting 611 tablets, $30 and a moto – but only one suspect. The 29-year-old drug peddler said he had been servicing that part of town for months, but refused to name his fellow felons. Koh Santepheap
Drugged-out sibling threatens sis for cash
A hop-head hoodlum might have assumed he’d chosen an easy mark when he held up his own sister in Pursat’s Phnom Kravanh district on Sunday. The alleged drug addict, 28, pointed a gun at his older sister, 38, and threatened to kill her unless she handed over $1,710 in cash. The seething sibling called police, who are now on the hunt for her blockhead bro, who allegedly also has his hand in the luxury timber market, police said. Kampuchea Thmey
Hit and run on officer has cops working OT
Police are at work for one of their own this week, after a 40-year-old cop was mown down by a Lexus RX300 on Monday night. The off-duty policeman was riding his moto in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district when the vehicle ran into him, coming from the opposite direction. The cowardly car driver quickly departed the scene, leaving the badly injured victim unconscious on the road. A witness said the driver might have been drunk. Deum Ampil
